A couple of key points that we would like to share following our meeting earlier in the week with Rob Winfield, SEND Service Manager.
Our primary concern is around the proposed SEN Funding cuts. We confirmed our deep concern and worry in respect of how the proposed cuts will affect our children and our families if they become a reality. We have been told that there is a School Forum working group (this is headed up by Heads of the local schools) that are meeting regularly and discussing how any potential cuts could be tackled – this is ongoing. We asked to have input into this working group and have also set up a meeting in the next few weeks with Councillor Darren Paffey (Cabinet member for Education and Skills) to raise our concerns at a higher level. We also talked about the EHCP process and are in talks with the Local Authority about sitting on a Task and Finish Group to give input and help improve the EHCP process, we are hoping the group will start work on this in the next month.
We represented at the meeting as the voice of Parents and Carers in the city and we will continue to work hard to have all of our voices heard. We have forged a good working relationship with the Local Authority and they continue to work with us. Please continue to give input and feedback to myself and to the members of our Steering Group – thank you for all the input and feedback you have given so far.
Work started this month on the re-design of The Buzz Network/Short Breaks Service. This will be co-produced with the Local Authority. After the 4 workshops taking place over April and May, we will be asking for Parent/Carer input and feedback over a 12 week consultation period, keep an eye out on the facebook page for details of events and meetings
